Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
1. Overview
Swic ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information about you when you use the Swic app and website. By using Swic, you agree to this policy.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide:
- Account information: name, email address, university, and organization affiliation
- Profile information: profile photo and bio
- User content: photos, videos, and captions you post
- Communications: messages you send through the in-app chat
- Waitlist: email addresses submitted through our website
Information collected automatically:
- Device information: device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers
- Usage data: features used, posts viewed, and interactions within the app
- Log data: IP address, access times, and pages visited
- Camera and photo library access (only when you choose to post content)
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Swic Service
- Personalize your feed and content recommendations
- Feature public and permanent posts in shared surfaces, such as the Hall of Fame and location-based hotspots on the campus map
- Enable communication between users via in-app chat
- Manage your account and provide the Service
- Send you important updates, notifications, and promotional communications (you may opt out at any time)
- Monitor and enforce our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service
- Analyze usage trends to improve the app experience
- Comply with legal obligations
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:
- Other users: Your posts, profile, and activity are visible to other Swic users as intended by the platform
- Service providers: Third-party vendors that help us operate the Service (e.g., Firebase for data storage, Mixpanel for analytics, Sentry for error monitoring)
- Legal authorities: When required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Swic and its users
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with appropriate notice to users
5. Data Retention
You choose how long each post stays up — from a few days to permanent. Posts you set to expire are deleted automatically at the end of that window. Posts you make permanent, and posts inducted into the Hall of Fame, are retained indefinitely and may be displayed publicly — including in the Hall of Fame and at location-based hotspots on the campus map — unless you request removal. Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.
6. Your Rights & Choices
You have the right to:
- Access and update your account information at any time through the app
- Delete your account and associated data
- Opt out of promotional emails by clicking "unsubscribe" in any email we send
- Request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Disable push notifications through your device settings
To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@swicapp.com.
7. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), Firebase security rules, and access controls to protect your information. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
8. Children's Privacy
Swic is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will terminate their account and delete their data promptly.
9. Third-Party Services
Swic uses the following third-party services which have their own privacy policies:
- Firebase (Google): Authentication, database, and storage
- Mixpanel: Product analytics
- Sentry: Error monitoring
- Formspree: Waitlist email collection
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these services.
10. Changes to This Policy
